Horses are going to the summer pastures

June 1, 2018

In Holtsmúli, we of course keep all our horses, and those that we board for our customers right at the farm over the winter.  During this time they get fed hay and stay where we can keep a close eye on them and make sure that they are comfortable at all times.  In the summer however, we move them to the spacious and glorious summer pastures that we have access to.   They are big ranges of grasslands with small rivers, hills, mixture of wetlands and old hayfields.

It is a priceless experience for the young horses to grow up in this kind of landscape and we would not want our youngsters to develop through their first years without it.

But having said that, it is important to keep in mind that it can be difficult to get a hold of those horses in the summer.   We want to remind our customers that we do not herd those horses in often over the summer, and if there is no reason, we do not get them back until the fall.  It is easy to watch them, but a big deal to get them all in, and we want them to have the summer to themselves playfighting and having fun.

We therefore ask all our customers that board horses with us, and need to get a hold of them through the summer and early fall, to let us know now so that we can keep those horses at home at the farm, and not send them to the summer pastures.  If we don´t hear from you, the horses will go and enjoy the summer in the big wonderland.

This is important for all mares that will be bred, and horses that should be exported anytime before the late fall.
